Her Return (A Poem)

I told you that wouldn’t be the case, my dear. You know I’ve never really vacated my little place in your mind.

Is that so?

You must be kidding me. You kept your distance. I’ll give you that. But never too far, for you’ve been hanging around my friends

It had nothing to do with you.

Oh really? I don’t mean to sound harsh, but you can’t actually believe that. If there’s one person you can’t lie to, it’s yourself.

Don’t do that. Please, just don’t. It’s not all on me. A relationship takes two.

You didn’t see me come calling, did you? No. I waited patiently on the shelf for you

Given our last talk, why’d you wait around anyway?

Because I know you

And you knew I would be back?

Honey, the second you felt my warm embrace, I knew it was over

So then why you feel the need to play with me?

Why do I feel the need? No. You’re the one playing with me. I need you like an inanimate object needs love.

You’re wicked, Blue Ana. Malevolent.

You’ve got your terms all mixed up. I’m benevolent. A peace keeper, if you will.

I won’t.

But you do. Facts don’t lie. How many times have we laid in bed as my sweet and gentle caress lulled you to sleep?

I won’t deny that. I can’t, for like you said, there’s no lying to myself.

You see, as much as you’d like it not to be, I do make sense.

But only for so long. That’s why we’re having this conversation right now. Your time is slowly but surely coming to an end. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Don’t make me laugh by getting all proverbial. Truer words have never been spoken, but what happens after three and four? I’ll tell you what: I only have you more.

Believe it or not, I’m taking a stand. I’d say it was nice seeing you again, but it wasn’t. Goodbye, Blue Ana.

You ignorant little boy. What is this? Your coup de grâce? I would bid you adieu, but I can’t. So, instead, until next time, my dear.
